Release examples¶
Release names are compact metadata records. They identify the content and the variant being released, then finish with the responsible group tag. The exact fields and their order depend on the category rules—there is no single template for every movie, game, album and book.
The examples below are real names observed in public Scene metadata during 2026. They are reproduced only to explain naming; this archive does not host the releases or link to downloads.
The general pattern¶
Common rules of thumb:
- periods or underscores replace spaces;
- the final
-GROUPtoken attributes the release; - content identity comes first and technical differentiation follows;
- only relevant fields are included—missing tags must not be invented;
- capitalization and separators vary by category and established rules;
- the NFO contains details that cannot fit safely into the directory name.
Read Tags and terminology for individual labels and Anatomy of a release for the files behind the name.
UHD Blu-ray film¶
| Token | Meaning |
|---|---|
The.Exorcist.Believer |
Normalized title. |
2023 |
Release year of the film, not the Scene PRE year. |
PL |
Polish-language market or primary-language marker. |
DUAL |
Two audio languages are included; the NFO identifies them precisely. |
2160p |
Ultra-high-definition picture class. |
UHD.BluRay |
The source is an Ultra HD Blu-ray. |
x265 |
HEVC video encoded with the x265 encoder under the applicable category convention. |
FLAME |
Release group. |
This example shows why UHD, 2160p and x265 are not synonyms: they describe source family, output resolution and video preparation respectively.
WEB television episode¶
| Token | Meaning |
|---|---|
Tulsa.King |
Series title. |
S04E03 |
Season 4, episode 3. |
GERMAN |
German audio is present. |
DL |
Dual-language audio; exact tracks belong in the NFO. |
1080P |
Full-HD resolution class. |
WEB |
Source obtained from an online distribution service. |
H264 |
AVC/H.264 video. |
WAYNE |
Release group. |
DL should not be read as “download.” In this language context it describes multiple audio languages.
Blu-ray television season¶
| Token | Meaning |
|---|---|
The.Lord...Power |
Full normalized series title. |
S01E08 |
Season 1, episode 8. |
720p |
HD output resolution. |
BluRay |
Optical-disc source. |
x264 |
AVC video encoded with x264. |
BRiMBOR |
Release group. |
The title contains many ordinary words, but the structured suffix still makes the episode, source and encode easy to identify.
Live sport and dated events¶
| Token | Meaning |
|---|---|
Formula1 |
Competition or programme. |
2026 |
Event season/year. |
Mexico.City.Grand.Prix.Practice.Three |
Event and session identity. |
HLG |
Hybrid Log-Gamma high-dynamic-range transfer. |
2160p |
UHD resolution class. |
WEB |
Online/broadcast-platform source. |
h265 |
HEVC video. |
BILLIE |
Release group. |
Sports naming prioritizes event identity. Other releases may include a full broadcast date or teams before the technical suffix.
PC game / GAMEiSO¶
| Token | Meaning |
|---|---|
SURI.The.Seventh.Note |
Game title. |
RUNE |
Release group. |
Modern game names can look surprisingly short. Platform, protection, disc count, included languages and installation notes are usually documented in the NFO and package rather than forced into the dirname.
Game update¶
| Token | Meaning |
|---|---|
The.Blood.of.Dawnwalker |
Base game title. |
Update |
This package updates an existing game rather than presenting the base release. |
v1.1.0 |
Target release version stated by the group. |
RUNE |
Release group. |
An update is not automatically standalone. Dependencies and the required base version must be taken from its NFO.
Nintendo Switch update¶
| Token | Meaning |
|---|---|
Hashire_HEBEREKE_EX |
Console-title naming uses underscores in this category. |
Update_v1.1.0 |
Update package and version. |
NSW |
Nintendo Switch category marker. |
SUXXORS |
Release group. |
Do not normalize underscores to dots merely for visual consistency: separators are part of category naming conventions.
Retail eBook¶
| Token | Meaning |
|---|---|
Maggie.Wells |
Author. |
Danger.on.the.Midway |
Title. |
2026 |
Publication year. |
RETAiL |
Retail digital source rather than a scan-derived edition. |
EPUB |
File format. |
eBook |
Release category/type marker. |
NODE |
Release group. |
Publishing releases emphasize author, title, edition source and document format rather than audiovisual properties.
24-bit WEB-FLAC¶
| Token | Meaning |
|---|---|
Raw_Ensemble |
Artist. Underscores preserve spaces inside music fields. |
The_Psychomorph_Curse |
Release title. |
24BIT |
High-resolution bit depth. |
WEB |
Digital music-store or service source. |
FLAC |
Lossless audio format. |
2026 |
Release year. |
MOONBLOOD |
Release group. |
The catalogue number is absent here, so it must not be guessed. When available and required, it commonly appears in parentheses after the title.
WEB single in MP3¶
| Token | Meaning |
|---|---|
Manik_(NZ) |
Artist, including a disambiguating country marker. |
-_ |
Music-scene separator between artist and title. |
Lose_Control |
Track or release title. |
(MELTRADIO019) |
Label catalogue identifier. |
SINGLE |
One-track/single release type. |
WEB |
Digital source. |
2026 |
Release year. |
ZzZz |
Release group. |
Unlike video naming, audio names often make label identity and release type visible before source and year.
Correction tag: REPACK¶
| Token | Meaning |
|---|---|
Tales_of_Autumn |
Title. |
REPACK |
The same group corrected its earlier package. |
NSW |
Nintendo Switch category. |
SUXXORS |
Release group responsible for the correction. |
REPACK does not explain the defect by itself. The NFO should state what was corrected, and the applicable rules determine whether that remedy is valid. A different group replacing a flawed earlier release would normally use PROPER, not REPACK.
What the dirname does not tell you¶
Even a detailed name cannot reliably show everything. Check the NFO and accompanying files for:
- exact audio and subtitle languages;
- source service, disc region or edition;
- bitrate, frame rate, HDR profile and channel layout;
- proof and sample requirements;
- dependencies for updates and DLC;
- why a
PROPER,REPACK,RERIPorREADNFOtag was used; - whether the release was later nuked or unnuked.
Source and rule context¶
The examples were cross-checked against public release metadata indexes including NGP, xREL and PreDB. These indexes are secondary records and can contain gaps or corrections; the release NFO and applicable rules remain the primary evidence.
Use the local Current scene rules library to compare each category with its preserved ruleset. The older HTML demonstrations from the original project are no longer used here because their layouts and terminology do not represent current release practice.
