Release categories

Scene categories are defined by a mixture of content, source, platform, format and the ruleset used to prepare the release. A movie and a television episode can therefore share the same technical WEB or Blu-ray standards, while games for different platforms follow separate rules.

Current category families

Category Typical releases
Software & publishing 0DAY software, applications, tools, cracks, key generators and eBooks.
PC games GAMEiSO releases containing PC game disc images, installers and required crack files.
Consoles Platform-specific releases for Nintendo Switch (NSW), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PlayStation Vita and legacy console systems.
Movies Feature films released from WEB, WEBRip, Blu-ray, UHD Blu-ray, REMUX or complete-disc sources.
Television Individual episodes, specials and complete seasons sourced from WEB/WEBRip, HDTV, SDTV or retail media.
Music MP3, retail FLAC, WEB FLAC, CD, vinyl, live and broadcast recordings.
Specialized audio/video Audiobooks and music videos, which use their own category rules.
Adult SD video, image sets and paysite material governed by category-specific XXX standards.

Categories overlap

Labels such as WEB, BluRay, x264 and FLAC describe a source or format, not always a complete release category. The applicable ruleset determines how those labels are used.

Video delivery forms

Form Description
Untouched WEB Original service stream remuxed without video transcoding, commonly tagged WEB.H264 or WEB.H265.
WEBRip A transcoded WEB source, commonly tagged WEBRip.x264 or WEBRip.x265.
Retail encode Video encoded from Blu-ray, UHD Blu-ray or an older DVD source.
REMUX Selected video, audio and subtitle streams copied without re-encoding into a new container.
Complete disc The full Blu-ray disc structure rather than a movie-only encode or remux.
Broadcast HDTV, SDTV, PDTV, DSR and related television captures.

Movies and television are content types. WEB, Blu-ray, REMUX and broadcast identify how that content was sourced or delivered.

Software, games and publishing

Type Description
0DAY Software releases distributed under the 0DAY packaging and naming standards.
GAMEiSO PC games distributed as disc images or installer media under the current game ISO rules.
eBOOK Digital books and related publishing formats.
Platform releases Console releases identified by platform-specific categories such as NSW, PS4, PS5 and PSV.

Music and audio

Type Description
MP3 Lossy music releases from WEB, CD, vinyl, broadcast and other permitted sources.
Retail FLAC Lossless FLAC releases sourced from physical retail media.
WEB FLAC Lossless music obtained from web shops or services, including SD and high-resolution WEB audio.
Audiobook Spoken-word releases following audiobook-specific standards.
Music video Promotional or retail music videos sourced from WEB, Blu-ray, DVD or broadcast material.

Historical and declining categories

These categories remain important when reading older archives, but they are no longer a good summary of current release activity.

Category Historical context
DVD / DVDRip Once a primary retail movie source; largely superseded by Blu-ray, UHD and WEB distribution.
VCD / SVCD Optical-disc video formats common in early movie releases.
CAM / TS / TC / screener Theatrical or promotional source classes that were more prominent before widespread digital distribution.
PDA / mobile Older phone, PDA and handheld-software categories that predate modern platform-specific rules.
Legacy consoles Discontinued console categories retained for archival releases and historical documentation.

Each category can define its own naming, source-quality, codec, folder-layout, proof, sample and documentation requirements. The local current rules library contains the rulesets used as the primary reference for this archive.
